The Department of Ancash is located north of Lima, in the western zone of the Pacific Ocean. Here you can find cities such as Huarmey (known for its beautiful beaches with unusual rock formations), Casma, and Chimbote (a region that was home to one of Peru’s most important Andean civilizations, Chavín)
 
Within its geographical amplitude, the north-central part of the country is also included. Here lies the Callejón de Huaylas, an important area made up of 2 mountain ranges called the Cordillera Blanca (White Mountain Range) and the Cordillera Negra (Black Mountain Range), where you can find snow-capped peaks of more than 6000 meters above sea level (19685 feet), such as our most important and the country’s highest snow-capped peak, Mount Huascarán (6768 m a.s.l., 22205 feet).
