Loreto is the largest region in Peru, a vast territory that represents the heart of the deep Amazon and is home to the country’s greatest biodiversity. It is the birthplace of legends and the home of the imposing Amazon River.
 
Its capital, Iquitos, is an exotic city and the main gateway to the region.   • Important Festivities: Anniversary of Iquitos (January 5), the Iquitos Carnivals (movable dates between February and March), the Feast of San Juan Bautista (June 24), the Tourist Week of Iquitos (around the first week of August), and the Day of the Peruvian Amazon (September 6).

    • Dry Season (June to October): Ideal for exploring the jungle on foot and the best time for animal sighting.
