The Karajía Sarcophagi were funerary tombs made of clay and decorated with geometric figures. These are unique examples in the world, measuring approximately 2 meters in height and located in a nearly inaccessible area. On this tour, you will also visit the Quiocta Cave, a cavern 580 meters (1,903 feet) deep, which contains human skulls and bones and where you can admire curious stalactite and stalagmite formations.

  • Location: Communities of Lámud and Cruzpata, Luya Province, Amazonas Department, Peru.
  • Distance from Chachapoyas to the community of Lámud: Approximately 1 hour.
  • Distance from Cruzpata to the Karajía Sarcophagi: 1 km hike.

Day 1Description of the activities

  • 8:30: Pick-up of passengers from the comfort of their accommodation for the start of the Full Day tour and departure towards Lámud.
  • 9:30: Arrival in the community of Lámud to purchase entrance tickets to the Quiocta Cave and reserve lunch. A 30-minute drive will then follow.
  • 10:00: Arrival at the Quiocta Cave and start of the guided tour, which lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes; here you will be able to observe the stalactite and stalagmite formations.
  • 12:00: Return trip to the community of Lámud to enjoy the included lunch.
  • 13:00: Departure by vehicle towards the community of Cruzpata.
  • 14:00: Arrival in the community of Cruzpata and start of the hike towards the Karajía sarcophagi.
  • 14:30: Free time in front of the Karajía sarcophagi for taking photographs and a guided explanation of the Chachapoyas culture.
  • 15:30: Hike back to Cruzpata to board transportation and begin the return trip to the city.
  • 17:00 PM: Approximate arrival in the city of Chachapoyas. End of our services.
