Gocta Waterfall is considered one of the tallest in the world. It has an approximate height of 771 meters (2,530 feet) divided into two drops. On this tour, you’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the second and tallest drop at 571 meters (1,873 feet). The trek involves 11 kilometers of hiking up and down mountains. The impressive waterfall is located 5.5 km from the town of Cocachimba, in the Valera district. The hike to the second waterfall begins from this town. Along the way, you can appreciate flora such as orchids, lilies, and bromeliads, as well as fauna including spectacled bears, spatuletail hummingbirds, woolly monkeys, and our national bird, the Andean “Gallito de las Rocas”.

Day 1Description of the activities

  • 8:30: Pick-up of passengers from the comfort of their accommodation for the start of the full-day tour and departure towards Cocachimba.
  • 9:30: Arrival in the community of Cocachimba, where lunch will be ordered and entrance fees will be paid.
  • 9:45: Start of the hike to the second tier of Gocta Waterfall, traversing the cloud forest vegetation. Along the way, you will be able to appreciate Andean “Gallito de las Rocas” (Peru’s national bird), butterflies, orchids, and other species of flora and fauna of the area.
  • 12:00: Arrival at the waterfall for free time, taking photographs, and appreciating the geography of the area.
  • 12:30: Start of the return trip to the community of Cocachimba.
  • 15:00: Lunch included in the town of Cocachimba, followed by return to the city of Chachapoyas.
  • 16:30: Arrival in the city of Chachapoyas. End of our services.
