We will begin this activity early in the morning, picking up customers from the comfort of their hotel (valid for hotels within the Historic Center). This tour will allow you to experience the high-altitude landscape of southern Peru. Our first stop will be the Volcanoes Viewpoint in the Chiguata District, where you can observe volcanoes such as Misti, Chachani, and Pichupichu.

Next, we will visit the town of Chiguata, where we’ll take a short City Tour to see the Church and its main square. Here, we’ll also have time for breakfast. Afterward, we’ll continue to the Alto Simbral area at 4200 meters above sea level, where we’ll see the typical flora of the region.

Then, we’ll arrive at Salinas Lagoon. In this magical place, if you’re taking the tour between January and March (depending on the season), you’ll see the water mirrors. If you’re taking the tour between April and December, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the salt extraction centers and take impressive photographs!

Additionally, we’ll observe local wildlife, including flamingos or “parihuanas”, llamas, alpacas, and the world-famous vicuñas. As an optional visit, we’ll have time to enjoy the thermal pools called “Las Mariposas” (The Butterflies). Finally, we’ll return to the city of Arequipa, arriving around 13:30, where we’ll drop you off a few blocks from the Plaza Mayor.

  • 06:00: Pick up of passengers from their accommodation heading to the Volcanoes Viewpoint.
  • 07:00: Brief stop at Patapampa Viewpoint, also known as Volcanoes Viewpoint (4910 meters above sea level or 16.108 feet), the highest point on the route to Colca Canyon. Here, we can admire the Misti, Chachani, and Pichupichu volcanoes.
  • 08:00: Arrival in the town of Chiguata, where we will have time for breakfast.
  • 08:40: Departure towards the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve.
  • 10:00: Arrival at the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve and Salinas Lagoon, where we will spend about 1 hour and 30 minutes to enjoy the flora and fauna.
  • 12:00: Return journey via Chiguata, heading back to the city of Arequipa.
  • 13:30: Arrival in the city of Arequipa, concluding our services.

What is the best time to visit Salinas Lagoon?

We have 2 visiting seasons for this destination, and the best one will depend on each client’s preferences. If you want to see the water mirrors, we recommend visiting between January and March, which is the rainy season in the region. For the rest of the year, from April to December, the landscape changes to dry salt flats. Remember that the photos you can take in this place will largely depend on the timing of your trip.

What important details should I know about the tour?
