Our package begins very early in the morning with the pick-up of passengers from their accommodations, located near the Main Square in Cusco, to head towards the town of Mollepata, where they will enjoy a light breakfast before continuing to Challacancha, the starting point of their trek. They will hike for three hours to Soraypampa, at an altitude of 3,900 meters (12,795 feet), where they will settle into their exclusive glass domes at Sky Camp, a unique accommodation designed to observe the mountains from the comfort of their room, and enjoy a meal prepared by the staff. In the afternoon, they will ascend to Humantay Lake, at an altitude of 4,200 meters (13,780 feet), on a three-hour round-trip hike to see the turquoise water in front of the glacier; finally, they will return to the camp for dinner and rest under the stars inside their glass igloos.
On the second day, you’ll face the most exciting part of the route: the ascent to Abra Salkantay, the highest point of the trip at 4,630 meters (15,190 feet), with breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains. After taking photos at the summit, you’ll begin your descent into the cloud forest for lunch and notice how the landscape quickly transforms into a lush, exotic rainforest. You’ll end the day in the village of Collpapampa, at 2,900 meters (9,514 feet), where you’ll enjoy a glamping experience at Mountain Sky View, a luxury camp nestled among tropical mountains and rivers that offers an exceptional perspective of the night sky and local wildlife.
On the third day, you’ll hike through the La Playa Valley, observing the local flora and fauna, and participate in a coffee demonstration before traveling by transport to the Hydroelectric Station. From this point, you can choose to walk for three hours along the train tracks beside the Urubamba River or take the train (not included) to the town of Aguas Calientes for dinner, a stroll through the town, and rest at your hotel.
Finally, on the fourth day, you will visit the citadel of Machu Picchu via Circuit 2 (Classic Circuit), which allows you to explore the urban and religious sectors, including the main temples and square, as well as access to the viewpoint for the famous postcard photo with the magical backdrop of this world wonder. You will also have the option of hiking Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional, prior arrangement required, not included). In the afternoon, you will have free time for lunch (not included), after which you will return by train to the Ollantaytambo station. From there, you will be transferred to your accommodation in Cusco. End of our services.
Cusco can be visited throughout the year, but if you want to travel during the best time, we recommend going between the months of April and October, as the probability of rain during those months is low, making the mountains look more majestic and with lots of sunlight.
To avoid altitude sickness, it is necessary to acclimatize by arriving in Cusco 2 or 3 days before the trek. If you are coming from a high-altitude area, you should dedicate at least one full day in the city to rest and recover from the journey before starting the expedition. The tour is offered as a shared service, so the groups are made up of people of different ages and physical conditions who walk at their own pace. In the event of any proposed changes to the itinerary, the guide will make the final decision after consulting with all participants.
Regarding the van, please note:
– In order to adhere to the itinerary, the maximum grace period for starting the trip will be 15 minutes.
– Seats in the van will be assigned according to the order of arrival, and you must return in the same seat you occupied at the beginning of the tour.
At least 3 months before the scheduled travel date and/or subject to availability of tickets for Circuit 2 of Machu Picchu, or 4 months in advance if your arrival date falls during peak season in Cusco (April to November).
Yes, it is essential that all participants carry a valid ID, Foreigner’s Card or Passport during all the tours included in the package.
