Junin – Trekking Day to the Rajuntay Snowy from Lima

Did you know that just 4 hours from Lima is this beautiful snow-capped mountain? Rajuntay is the highest snow-capped mountain in the Cordillera Central (5474 masl), it is located in the Province of Yauli, Department of Junin.

If you are a lover of high mountain trekking and you are looking to continue exploring new routes, then we are waiting for you every weekend from April to September (dry season). To participate, do not forget to carefully read the prerequisites that are needed to be able to be part of this outing. New outdoor routes await you with us!

  • Distance from Lima to Nevado Rajuntay: 4 hours approx.
  • Maximum height in the Nevado Rajuntay: 5474 meters above sea level.
  • Duration of the Trekking to be carried out: 2 hours to 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Day 1DEPARTURE TO SAN MATEO

  • 23:00: Departure towards the Town of San Mateo.

Day 2TREKKING TO THE SNOWY RAJUNTAY AND RETURN TO LIMA

  • 05:00: Arrival at Abra Antacassa, free time to use the restrooms and buy nuña or hot coca tea from the locals (recommended for altitude sickness).
  • 05:30: Start of the Trekking to the Snowy Glacier (helmets and trekking poles will be provided to those who wish).
  • 07:00: Arrival at Laguna Pucacocha. Free time to rest and rehydrate, to finally start ascending the glacier.
  • 09:00: Arrival at the snow-capped glacier, here we will have the opportunity to take as many photos as possible and play with the snow.
  • 10:00: We start the return (approximate time).
  • 12:30: Arrival at the Mirador de Rajuntay area where we can have lunch with the typical dishes of the area (not included).
  • 14:00: Departure to San Mateo (approximate time).
  • 15:00: Arrival at the Town of San Mateo (Minimarket for use of the hygienic services and purchases of a snack).
  • 19:30: Approximate arrival in Lima.

What requirements must I meet to be able to carry out this Trekking Day?

  • Be of legal age (18 years).
  • Experience in trekking at more than 4000 meters above sea level is required.
  • Not having problems with height like soroche.
  • Be in good physical condition for the walk.
  • The exit is not suitable for people with respiratory or cardiac problems.

What important details should I know about the Trekking Day?

About the Van you should know:

-The mobility seats will be occupied according to the order of arrival, and you must return in the same seat in which you traveled at the beginning of the trip.

-In order to comply with the itinerary, the maximum tolerance to start the trip will be 15 minutes.

How long in advance can I make a reservation?

Maximum up to 72 hours before the start of the tour date and/or subject to space availability. If you are from a neighboring country or from any other part of the world, we recommend you book at least 2 weeks in advance.

Do I need to bring any identity document during this outing?

Yes, it is essential that all participants carry a DNI, Immigration Card or valid Passport during the realization of this campsite.
