Our midday city tour begins with a meeting in the Plaza de Armas, from where we’ll head to our first stop: the imposing Puma Uta viewpoint. Here, one of the most colorful and privileged views of Puno Bay will unfold before your eyes. From this natural balcony, you’ll appreciate the immensity of Lake Titicaca and the silhouettes of the Capachica and Chucuito peninsulas, while discovering the origins and transformation of this city that beats at 3,827 meters above sea level (12,555 feet).

After this first encounter with the horizon, you’ll descend to the historic heart of the city to uncover the ancient legends that still permeate its streets. You’ll stroll among the carved stone of the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral, and visit the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Candelaria, a corner of unwavering faith where you’ll understand why its festival is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

They will continue their tour through vibrant and traditional areas, such as Pino Park and the historic San Carlos School, where they will experience the essence of the Altiplano at every turn. Finally, they will explore the halls of the Carlos Dreyer Municipal Museum, where they will admire the legendary Sillustani Treasure, an impressive collection of gold and pre-Hispanic art that will reveal the grandeur of the cultures that inhabited these lands long before the Incas. The tour will conclude with the return to the city of Puno, arriving at approximately 12:00.

  • 08:45: Pick-up of passengers from the Plaza de Armas de Puno to start the City Tour heading to the Mirador Puma Uta.
  • 09:00: Arrival at the Puma Uta Lookout, from this strategic point you will enjoy spectacular views of Lake Titicaca and learn about the origins of the city.
  • 09:30: Descend to the historical heart. A walk through the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral to emerge into the legends that cover the tall stone walls.
  • 10:00: Parade at the Santuario de la Virgen de la Candelaria. A meeting with the local community to understand why this holiday is a human heritage.
  • 10:30: Walk through the Pino Park and the historic San Carlos College. They will feel the identity and the vibrant pulse of the Altiplano in these busy areas of life.

What is the best time of year to visit Puno?

The city of Puno can be visited year-round, but take note of the two most distinct seasons in terms of weather. For example, if your trip is between September and March (don’t forget to pack waterproof clothing), because it will be the rainy season. But if your trip is between April and August (then you can enjoy the dry season), where you will find clear, sunny skies and a very pleasant daytime temperature (approximately 15-20°C).

What important details should I know about the City Tour?

How long in advance can I make a reservation?

At least 15 days before the scheduled travel date and/or subject to seat availability. If you’re from a neighboring country or anywhere else in the world, we recommend booking at least 20 days in advance, or one month if the date you arrive is high season in Puno.
