The 4-day Inca Trail is the classic long route for this journey, starting the trek at KM 82 (a 43-kilometer hike). This trip transports you through history, where every step reveals the empire’s grandeur. Along this route, you will appreciate significant Inca archaeological remains such as Llactapata (agricultural terraces) and Canabamba (an administrative center), perfectly integrated into the Andean landscape.

The physical challenge reaches its peak as you ascend to Dead Woman’s Pass, the highest point of the route at 4,215 meters (13,828 feet), offering unforgettable views of the mountain range. From there, the path enters the cloud forest to discover the Runkurakay checkpoint, the stone labyrinth of Sayaqmarka, and the impressive terraces of Wiñay Wayna. The journey culminates with an exclusive entrance through Intipunku (Sun Gate), where our world wonder, the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, will appear before you to reveal the secrets of the Incas.

Distance from Lima to Cusco by plane: 42 minutes. By bus: Approximately 22 hours.
Maximum altitude in Cusco: 4,215 meters (13,828 feet).
IMPORTANT: Have good acclimatization to the altitude.
Climate: Cold temperate. Average annual temperature 11ºC (51.8 °F).
Low season: December to February (rainy season).
High season: April to November (including June, July and August).
Departure time: 04:00. Hotel pick-up (Day 1 - valid only for hotels near Main Square in Cusco).
Return time: 14:30 (Day 4 - departure towards Cusco city, approximate arrival 18:30).

DAY 1CUSCO – PISCACUCHO – AYAPATA

04:30: Pick-up from accommodations in Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley.
06:30: Stop in Ollantaytambo for the first breakfast and distribution of the cloth snack bags.
08:30: Arrival at Piscacucho (KM 82) for document control and the start of the trek along ancient paths.
11:00: Observation of the landscapes and the archaeological sites of Canabamba and Llactapata.
13:00: Lunch prepared by the kitchen team and water resupply.
14:00: Resuming the trek towards the Ayapata campsite.
16:30: Arrival at the Ayapata campsite for Tea Time or Happy Hour (included according to your choice).
17:30: Dinner and overnight in tents at the Ayapata sector after the first day of hiking.

DAY 2AYAPATA – DEAD WOMAN’S PASS – CHAQUIQOCHA

05:00: Wake-up tea service at the tents and nutritious breakfast.
06:00: Start of the ascent to the highest part of the Andes mountain range: Dead Woman’s Pass (Abra de la Mujer Muerta).
10:00: Arrival at Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215 meters above sea level) and free time for mountain photos.
10:30: Start of the descent into the Pacaymayo valley.
12:00: Arrival at the Pacaymayo sector for lunch and water resupply.
13:30: Resuming the trek and ascent toward the Runkurakay pass.
14:30: Guided tour of the Runkurakay archaeological site.
15:00: Hike towards the Sayaqmarka complex.
16:00: Brief offering ceremony and exploration of the Sayaqmarka archaeological site.
16:45: Departure towards the Chaquiqocha campsite.
17:30: Arrival at the Chaquiqocha campsite to enjoy the sunset and Tea Time.
18:30: Dinner and rest under the Andean night sky.

DAY 3CHAQUIQOCHA – WIÑAY WAYNA

06:30: Breakfast and start of the section towards the cloud forest with views of the Salkantay glacier.
09:00: Observation of the Vilcabamba mountain range and the Urubamba River along the trail.
11:30: Continuation of the trek towards the Wiñay Wayna sector.
12:30: Arrival at the Wiñay Wayna campsite for lunch and a short rest.
15:00: Visit to the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site to see its water fountain system and terraces.
16:00: Return to the campsite.
17:00: Tea Time and dinner with the support team at the campsite.
18:30: Rest to prepare for the early departure to Machu Picchu.

DAY 4 WIÑAY WAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

03:30: Wake-up and final early breakfast for early entry into the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
05:30: Arrival at Intipunku (Sun Gate) and first view of the archaeological zone.
06:00: Arrival at the control point and entry into the citadel of Machu Picchu.
06:30: Guided tour of Circuit 1 (Panoramic – Upper Route). Visit to the Guardian’s House sector for the classic photo and panoramic views.
08:30: Conclusion of the guided tour and free time for additional photographs.
10:30: Bus departure descending to the town of Aguas Calientes.
12:00: Free time for lunch in the town (not included).
14:30: Train departure to Ollantaytambo station.

FAQs

What is the best time to go to Cusco?

Cusco can be visited year-round, but if you want to travel at the best time, we recommend going between April and October, as the probability of rain during those months is low, making the mountains look more majestic and bathed in sunshine.

What important details should I know about the Package?

The tour is offered as a shared service, so the groups are made up of people of different ages and physical abilities who walk at their own pace. Any proposed changes to the itinerary will be made by the guide after consulting with all participants.

Regarding the van, please note:

– To ensure we adhere to the itinerary, the maximum grace period for starting the trip is 15 minutes.

– Seats in the van will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and you must return to the same seat you occupied at the start of the Package.

How far in advance can I make a reservation?

At least 3 months before the scheduled travel date and/or subject to availability of tickets on the Inca Trail Circuit and Machu Picchu Circuit 2, or 4 months in advance if your arrival date falls during peak season in Cusco (April to November).

Do I need to bring any identification documents during the tour?

Yes, it is essential that all participants carry a valid ID, Foreigner’s Card or Passport during all the tours included in the package.
