To detail

Your half-day adventure will begin with a pick-up from your accommodations and transfer to the port of Puno. There, you will board a boat that will take you out onto the lake for a mere 20 minutes. Within the Lake Titicaca National Reserve, you will enjoy an ideal setting for birdwatching before disembarking on these islands.

Upon arrival at the islands, a host family will give you a warm welcome. Here, you will meet the legendary Aymara descendants (an indigenous people native to the Andes), who keep their traditions alive in a world of color and culture. They will explain in detail the amazing process of building the dikes that form their floating home, made of totora reeds (an aquatic plant that grows in the lake). This reed is essential to their survival, as it is used to construct everything from the ground you will walk on to the boats that navigate the water.

During the visit, you will discover the secrets of daily life on the Altiplano, observing activities such as fishing, hunting, and totora reed harvesting. You will also be able to appreciate their delicate handicrafts and textiles, which you will have the opportunity to purchase directly from the villagers if you wish to take an authentic souvenir home. Before departing, you can participate in a boat trip aboard traditional totora reed rafts, curiously nicknamed “Mercedes Benz” (optional, not included), a unique experience to explore the lake using the technique that the inhabitants still maintain today.

Once the boat trip on the lake is complete, we will disembark on a nearby island, also belonging to the Uros people, where you will have free time to enjoy a hot drink and/or a snack (not included) for the return journey to the city. A few minutes later, we will depart by speedboat to conclude the experience in the city of Puno, arriving at approximately 12:30.
