The activity will begin very early in the morning, where you will be picked up from the comfort of your hotel to begin this trip to the outskirts of the city. The Laguna de Salinas tour will allow you to experience the highland landscape of this region in southern Peru. The first stop will be the Volcano Viewpoint in the Chiguata District, where you can observe the Misti, Ampato, and Sabancaya volcanoes.

Then, you will visit the town of Chiguata, where you will take a short city tour to see the church and the Plaza de Armas. There will also be time for breakfast. Afterward, the route continues to Alto Simbral, at 4.200 meters above sea level (13.779 feet), where you will see the typical flora of the area. Then, you’ll head to the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where you’ll be able to admire the Salinas Lagoon. If you take the tour between January and March (depending on the season), you’ll be able to see the local wildlife, including flamingos, llamas, and even the world-famous vicuñas, among other animals. If you take the tour between April and December, you’ll be able to visit the salt extraction centers and take stunning photographs!

The tour will continue with a visit to The Lojen Thermal Baths, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak. You’ll also discover the attractive Lojen Mini Volcano. Afterward, there will be time for lunch back in Chiguata before returning to Arequipa. The tour concludes around 17:00, where you’ll be dropped off a few blocks from the Plaza Mayor.

What is the best time to visit Salinas Lagoon?

We have 2 visiting seasons for this destination, and the best one will depend on each client’s preferences. If you want to see the water mirrors, we recommend visiting between January and March, which is the rainy season in the region. For the rest of the year, from April to December, the landscape changes to dry salt flats. Remember that the photos you can take in this place will largely depend on the timing of your trip.

What important details should I know about the tour?
