Qeswachaka also known as the last Inca bridge, is an impressive 28-meter-long hand woven suspension bridge. Every year the local population renovates the bridge just as the Incas did hundreds of years ago. This beautiful woven bridge belongs to the Network of Inca roads known by the name of Qhapacñan, which connected the surrounding towns with the Inca City of Machu Picchu. The change of the bridge is carried out annually, on the second Sunday of June in the festival of reconstruction of the bridge, which takes place in the town of Quehue, where the women are in charge of weaving the long braids of Ichu (vegetation of the zone) and men to be able to place it.
Qeswachaka is today the last Inca bridge that has clearly survived thanks to the conservation of the customs of its people, an effort that has been awarded by UNESCO, recognizing it as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012. We invite you to visit it and dare to cross it.
The best season to visit Qeswashaka is undoubtedly the month of June, during the second week, days in which the Festival of the renovation of the bridge is celebrated, being able to visit them and enjoy this millenary work together with the population.
