Chavín de Huántar was an important ceremonial center in ancient Peru (dating back to 1000 BC), belonging to the Chavín. It became an important oracle and pilgrimage center where people from all over came to consult their great deity about their crops and the weather: The Lanzón of Chavín. This is an impressive carved monolith, almost five meters tall, carefully preserved in one of its underground galleries. Come visit it and immerse yourself in more important details about this great predecessor pre-Inca culture.

Our Full Day tour will begin with picking up passengers from their accommodations (which must be located in the historic center of Huaraz). Once everyone is ready, we’ll head to the towns south of Huaraz (Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac), then take the turnoff east and enter the Cordillera Blanca. Here, we’ll stop for about 20 minutes at Laguna Querococha (3,900 meters of altitude) to capture the best photos.
Then we will continue ascending to the Cahuish Pass/Tunnel (4,516 meters of altitude), crossing into the Callejón de Conchucos Valley and, after an endless descent of hairpin turns, arriving in the town of Chavín, where we will visit the majestic Chavín Archeological Complex (Square Plaza, Circular Plaza, El Castillo, the Labyrinths, and the famous Lanzón) and the Chavín Museum, located 1 km from the town.
Here we will be able to get an up-close look at the various stages and phases of development of Peru’s Great First Andean Culture. The visit to the Chavín de Huántar archeological complex will take approximately two hours, and afterward you can also visit the National Museum of Chavín, where the most important remains found within its main temple are on display (admission is optional).
After lunch in the town of Chavín, we’ll have a few minutes to explore its streets. Finally, we’ll return to the city of Huaraz along the same route that brought us here, arriving at approximately 19:00.
We recommend visiting the city of Huaraz between May and September, as these are the months when the weather is clearest, allowing you to enjoy trekking and hiking activities more comfortably and safely.
