Llanganuco Lagoon is undoubtedly the most accessible and photographed jewel of Huascarán National Park in Ancash, Peru. This stunning glacial lake sits at approximately 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) above sea level, surrounded by the imposing snow-capped peaks of Huascarán and Huandoy, offering a picture-postcard landscape that captivates everyone.
Llanganuco is a system of two lakes: the popular Chinancocha, famous for its intense turquoise color and the dense queñua forest that surrounds it, and the smaller, more serene Orconcocha, located a little higher up. Access to this Andean paradise is via the picturesque Callejón de Huaylas.

Our full day tour begins with passenger pick up directly from their accommodations. We will then depart for the Huaylas Alley, nestled between the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra mountain ranges.
Throughout the journey, we will be able to admire snow-capped peaks such as Huascarán (6,768 m/22,204 ft), the highest mountain in Peru. Our first stop will be in the city of Carhuaz to sample its artisanal ice cream. We will also visit its main square and church. We will continue our journey to Yungay (cemetery), the city that was buried on May 31, 1970, by an avalanche from Huascarán.
From Yungay, we’ll take a detour to enter Huascarán National Park. We’ll arrive at the Llanganuco Valley to admire the Llanganuco Lake (Chinancocha, 3850 meters above sea level/12,631 feet), characterized by their turquoise waters. You can take a boat or horseback ride (rentals can be arranged directly with the local community).
After immersing ourselves in the beauty of Llanganuco Lake, we’ll begin our descent to stop for lunch at a cozy local restaurant. On this final leg of the trip, we’ll make a final stop in the picturesque village of Taricá. There, we’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the art of local crafts, observing how artisans mold clay to create unique pieces. The tour concludes with the return trip to the city of Huaraz, arriving at approximately 19:00 hrs.
We recommend visiting the city of Huaraz between April and September, as these are the months when the weather is clearest, allowing you to enjoy trekking and hiking activities more comfortably and safely.
