Conquer Choquequirao, the imposing “sacred sister” of Machu Picchu, hidden among abysses and clouds. This Inca citadel is famous for its enigmatic terraces adorned with llamas (an Andean camelid), and is considered a jewel that rewards those who dare to challenge the untamed Apurímac Canyon. A landscape awaits you where the high jungle still shelters temples and squares buried by vegetation, making you feel like a true explorer before a world that time has yet to fully reveal. Choquequirao is one of the most challenging treks in Peru, requiring solid physical preparation and experience on mountain routes to fully enjoy the journey. If you feel ready, then join our tours.

Our tour begins very early in the morning with pick-up from your accommodations, located near the Main Square of Cusco, and a drive to San Pedro de Cachora. After a welcome breakfast at the accommodation, you will be transferred to the checkpoint to register and begin the hike. The expedition starts with a steady descent down the canyon slopes to the cabin area in Chiquiska, where you will settle in for lunch and rest, recharging your energy for the most challenging day of the trip.
On the second day, after a nutritious breakfast, you will descend into the depths of the Apurímac Canyon. At this point, the environment becomes warm and semi-arid, surrounded by cacti and rock formations. From here, you will face the main challenge of the route: a 10-kilometer (6.21-mile) ascent that will take you from 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) to 2,900 meters (9,514 feet). As you ascend towards Marampata, you’ll witness the landscape transform into a lush, greener rainforest. Upon reaching base camp (cabins), you’ll enjoy a hot dinner and relax with a breathtaking view of the vast valley, having completed the most demanding part of the expedition.
On the third day, after breakfast, you’ll dedicate your time exclusively to exploring the Citadel of Choquequirao. You’ll enter the archaeological site for a guided tour of its most important areas, including the famous terraces and main squares. To make the most of your time, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch within the permitted area of the complex. In the afternoon, you’ll return to base camp in Marampata for a closing dinner and your last night in the mountains.
Finally, you’ll begin your return journey through the canyon to Chiquiska, where a revitalizing lunch awaits you to help you regain your strength. Upon reaching the designated road point, your private transportation will be waiting for you so you can finally relax during the return journey. A brief stop will be made for you to collect your belongings left in safekeeping at the hotel. The tour concludes with your arrival at San Francisco Square, marking the end of our services.
The best time to do this trekking route is the dry season, which begins in April and ends in October. During these months the presence of rain will be almost null, making the path much easier to follow.
Definitely one of the most important things to do before traveling to Cusco for the first time is to check how the weather forecast will be during your stay, Cusco can be a very cold city, like very sunny during the day, so You have to be prepared for everything.
The second thing is definitely to try to do not very demanding activities the first day, to get acclimatized and get used to the altitude, if not. We advise you to drink coca tea, drink plenty of liquids and also eat as lightly as possible (digestion here is usually a little slower than normal).
At least 20 days before the scheduled travel date and/or subject to space availability. If you are from a neighboring country or from any other part of the world, we recommend you book at least 30 days in advance or 2 months if the date you arrive is in high season in Cusco.
