Marcahuasi is one of the most famous places in the Lima mountains, it is located at 4,000 thousand meters of altitude and is formed by a chain of volcanic mountains. Mostly known for its positive energy, some say that its starry night skies offer more than just stars. You’ll also find rocks shaped like seals, bears, dogs, and the Monument to Humanity, a massive granite boulder resembling a human face, whose profile changes depending on the viewing angle.

The total hike on day 2 usually lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on the group’s pace. We suggest carrying your personal belongings for an additional fee to make the trek more comfortable.

Camping here will be a phenomenal experience! Just remember to bring very warm clothing, as temperatures tend to drop significantly at night.

  • Location: San Pedro de Casta, Province of Huarochirí, Department of Lima.
  • Distance from Lima to Marcahuasi: 5 hours approx.
  • Maximum height in Marcahuasi: 4,000 meters of altitude (13.123 feet).
  • IMPORTANT: Preferably not be sedentary people and have good acclimatization to the altitude.
  • Climate: Maximum temperatures of Day 18 °C (64.4 °F) and minimum temperatures of Night 0 °C (32 °F).

DAY 1ARRIVAL AT MARCAHUASI, TREK ACROSS THE PLATEAU, AND CAMPING

  • 05:00: Meeting at the Starting Point: San Borja
  • 05:15: Departure for San Pedro de Casta.
  • 08:30: Stop for breakfast (not included) and final shopping en route.
  • 11:00: Payment of tourist entrance fee in the town of San Pedro de Casta.
  • 11:10: Transfer to Atogolpo and 15-minute walk to Portachuelos (camping area).
  • 12:30: Lunch, tent setup, and a short rest for acclimatization.
  • 14:30: First tour of Marcahuasi, visiting the Valley Viewpoint, The Daniel Ruzo House, and the Pre-Inca Chullpas (Funerary Towers).
  • 17:30: Sunset view from the plateau.
  • 19:30: Return to camp for dinner (not included), group campfire, and night photos.

DAY 2TREKKING THROUGH MARCAHUASI AND RETURN TO LIMA

  • 06:00: Breakfast (not included) and pick-up from camp.
  • 08:00: Start of the second trek, visiting the Monument to Humanity, the Valley of the Seals, and Cachu Cachu Lake and Taki Cocha Lake. (Optional, depending on time: Infiernillo, Fortaleza Viewpoint, and Marcahuasi Lagoon).
  • 11:30: Return to the campsite to collect belongings, short hike to Atogolpo, and descent to Casta by transport.
  • 12:30: Lunch in town.
  • 14:00: Start of the return trip to Lima with a brief stop along the way for a tasting of artisanal ice cream.
  • 20:00: Approximate arrival in Lima. End of our services.

What other requirements must I meet to be part of this outing?
