A detail

Location: Urubamba, Cusco Department, Peru.
Distance from Lima to Cusco by plane: 42 minutes. By bus: approx. 22 hours.
Distance from Aguas Calientes to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary: 30 minutes.
Maximum altitude in Machu Picchu: 2439 meters of altitude (8,001 feet).
IMPORTANT: Have good acclimatization to the altitude.
Climate: Cold temperate. Average annual temperature 11ºC (51.8 °F).
Low season: December to February (rainy season).
High season: April to November (including June, July and August).
Departure time in Aguas Calientes: 14:55 (DAY 2).
Arrival time at Ollantaytambo station: 16:11 (here we will transfer to a bus to Wanchaq Station at 16:41 towards the city of Cusco).
Final transfer time to Cusco: 19:00. Pick-up from Wanchaq Station to our accommodation in the city of Cusco.

Day 1TRIP CUSCO/MACHU PICCHU VILLAGE

04:30: Pick up from the hotel to the Wanchaq Station of Peru Rail.
05:10: Departure by bus to the Ollantaytambo Train Station.
07:10: Transfer to the PeruRail Expediton train to Aguas Calientes.
09:15: Arrival in the town of Aguas Calientes and transfer to your accommodation to Check- In at the hotel. Free afternoon and night.

Day 2TOUR TO MACHU PICCHU AND RETURN TRIP TO CUSCO

07:00: Breakfast at the hotel.
07:30: Check out and pick up from your hotel, who will drop you off at the bus line. These will take you to the entrance gate of the citadel of Machu Picchu.
08:00: Bus ride up to Machu Picchu (approximate time).
09:00 Start of the tour in Machu Picchu (approximate time).
11:30: End of the tour to Machu Picchu and return to Aguas Calientes.
12:00: Lunch in Aguas Calientes.
13:00: Free time for souvenir shopping.
14:55: Departure on a PeruRail Expedition or Vistadome train (*) to Ollantaytambo Station. (Please arrive at the station 30 minutes prior to departure).
16:41: Arrival at the train station and transfer by bus to the Wanchaq Station in Cusco.
19:00: Private transfer from PeruRail’s Wanchaq Station to the hotel. End of our services.

(*) If you choose the return option with PeruRail’s Vistadome Observatory train, please note the following schedule: 15:20 train departure from Machu Picchu, 17:15 transfer to a bus in Ollantaytambo, and arrival in Cusco at 19:30.

FAQs

What is the best time to go to Cusco?

Cusco can be visited throughout the year, but if you want to travel during the best time, we recommend going between the months of April and October, as the probability of rain during those months is low, making the mountains look more majestic and with lots of sunlight.

What important details should I know about the Tour?

The tour is offered in small groups. The maximum capacity will be 15 people per group, where the guide is only and exclusively for the passengers who take this program. With the exception of the train and Tourist Bus transfers to Machu Picchu, which are detailed below:

-TRAIN TO AGUAS CALIENTES: Seat locations for this service are shown on the ticket that will be sent to you electronically upon purchase of the package.

Please remember that the MAXIMUM LUGGAGE ALLOWED per customer is one piece of luggage up to 8 kg. If this exceeds the allowed amount per person, please note the ADDITIONAL COSTS that you will have to cover during train travel: Carry-on or additional bag up to 8 kg: USD 15. 23kg suitcase: USD 25 dollars (costs per luggage unit).

-TOURIST BUS TO MACHU PICCHU: The seats in the transportation will be occupied according to the order of arrival, and you must return in the same seat in which you traveled at the beginning of the tour.

In order to comply with the itinerary, please be very attentive at the time of boarding, in order to comply with the departure and return times.

How far in advance can I make a reservation?

Minimum 30 days before the scheduled travel date and/or subject to availability of tickets to Machu Picchu (Circuit 2) and accommodation. If you are from a neighboring country or from any other part of the world, we recommend booking at least 45 days in advance or 2 months if the date you arrive is during high season in Cusco.

Do I need to bring any identification documents during the tour?

Yes, it is essential that all participants carry a valid ID, Foreigner’s Card or Passport during all the tours included in the package.
