The department of Amazonas has cities that belong to both the highlands and the jungle. This is due to the deep Marañón Valley, which runs through its territory giving it shape and color.
Its Capital is Chachapoyas. This is one of the oldest cities in Peru. The most beautiful thing here is that you can still see its wide colonial houses, with large patios and rooftops. In the surroundings of this city there is a cloud forest, which almost by magic turns the Andean landscape into a jungle. This destination will simply surprise you.
The Kuelap Fortress, one of the most important archaeological wonders of the country, the unique Sarcophagi of Karajía, the Pomacochas Lagoon (one of the largest lagoons in Peru), the Gocta Waterfall (the sixth highest in the world), the city de Leymebamba and its Museum (this has textiles, weapons and mummies extracted from the Laguna de los Cóndores) and the Caverna de Quiocta.
