Our City Tour begins with a transfer from the comfort of your accommodations to the community of Huancas, the starting point for registration and entry to the tourist attractions. The journey continues to the majestic Sonche Canyon, where you will visit the “La Goya” viewpoint to contemplate the immensity of the natural gorge. From this vantage point, you will have free time to appreciate the native flora and fauna and capture memorable photographs of the stunning landscape.

Next, you will embark on a guided tour of the Huanca Urco Canyon to observe its complex geological formations and the ancient pre-Hispanic mausoleums nestled into the cliffs. After completing this hike, where you can also see Gocta Waterfall, you will make a final stop at the iconic Luya Urco Viewpoint, a natural balcony ideal for enjoying a panoramic view of the entire city. Finally, you will return to the main square of Chachapoyas, arriving at approximately 12:30.

Day 1Description of the activities

(1) Departure: 9:30/Return: 12:30 

  • 9:30: Pick-up of passengers from their respective accommodations to begin the journey to the community of Huancas.
  • 10:00: Arrival in the town of Huancas for group registration and purchase of entrance tickets to the attractions.
  • 10:10: Visit to the Sonche Canyon at an altitude of 2,600 meters (8,530 feet). After a short 5-minute walk to the “La Goya” viewpoint, you will have free time to contemplate its impressive depth of almost 1 km (3,280 feet), appreciate the landscape, and take photographs.
  • 10:40: Transfer to the Huanca Urco Canyon to observe the rock formations, the ancient pre-Hispanic mausoleums, and appreciate a part of the Gocta Waterfall, as well as the surrounding flora and fauna. 11:30: Return trip towards the Luya Urco viewpoint.
  • 12:00: Brief stop at the viewpoint to take photos of the city, receive an explanation from the guide, and descend to the historic center.
  • 12:30: Arrival at the Main Square of Chachapoyas. End of services.

What is the best time to travel to Chachapoyas?

The best time to travel to Chachapoyas is between June and November, due to the lack of rain. The weather is usually cool to mild, so it’s always best to bring a warm jacket to avoid catching a cold.

What important details should I know about this Half-Day Tour?

– In order to adhere to the itinerary, the maximum grace period for starting the tour is 15 minutes.

– Seats in the van will be assigned according to the order of arrival, and you must return to the same seat you occupied at the beginning of the City Tour.

How far in advance can I make a reservation?

Up to 48 hours before the start of the Full Day tour and/or subject to availability (only if you are already in Chachapoyas). However, if you are from a neighboring country or anywhere else in the world, we recommend booking at least 7 days in advance, or 15 days if your arrival date falls during peak season in Chachapoyas.

Do I need to bring any identification documents during the tours?

Yes, it is essential that all participants carry a valid ID card, Foreigner’s Card, or Passport during all tours included in the package.
