FAQs

What recommendations would you give us if it's our first time traveling to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve?

Definitely one of the most important things to do before visiting the Pacaya Samiria Reserve for the first time is to check what time of year you want to travel, as this will determine the type of experience you will have. For example, if your trip is between June and September, you can enjoy areas within the Reserve that become white-sand beaches. If your trip is between October and May, then prepare to appreciate the dolphins and manatees in all their splendor.

The second thing is definitely to try to get vaccinated against yellow fever. Although vaccination against yellow fever is not officially required for Peru, the disease is known to be present in the rainforest, and the vaccine is recommended for travelers to all destinations located in the tropical forests of South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Those looking to get vaccinated before traveling should keep in mind that the vaccination must be obtained at least ten days before visiting the rainforest. Those who have already been vaccinated should remember that they will require a booster vaccination every ten years.
